From 18 January to 16 February, Citywalk 2 and the Salvation Army will jointly present the “Chinese Cultural Kaleidoscope – CNY Kids Edition”, an initiative that aims to promote both traditional Chinese culture and creativity. “Kiddy Town”, spanning over 2,000 square feet, forms the backbone of the initiative. What is special about the “town” is that it is created in concerted effort by some 3,000 students and teachers from the 17 nursery schools run by the Salvation Army with local lifestyle/art influencer Busymama and her team Busyart.
The entire “town” is made with recyclable materials including cardboard boxes, cores of packing tapes, cardboards and disposable cutlery. To honour the festive occasion, the “town” is copiously decorated with auspicious elements like traditional red lanterns, firecrackers and red banners. The space is divided into five theme zones – performing arts, traditional games, architecture, dining culture and folk art – introducing ancient Chinese culture from the perspective of children.
On specific days, students and teachers from the participating nursery schools will provide guided tours for the public.
Riding on the “Kiddy Town”, students from the participating nursery schools have created 17 fai chun designs to give to mallgoers.
